Sexton is finding his way.

Minus the fourth quarter in Minnesota, Sexton looked mostly undisciplined and somewhat out of control on both ends of the floor in his first three NBA games. He largely seemed out of place on both ends and had a difficult time developing any sort of rhythm.

A lot of this has to do with the lineups and the lack of half-court structuring he was playing with in the second unit. Thursday’s game in Detroit showed that he can be special when he’s playing with some sort of structure offensively.

Playing with Korver really helped Sexton settle into the game offensively. Korver’s shooting provided structure and off-ball movement, which allowed Sexton to play his game when he had the ball. As a result, three of his five assists went to Korver in the fourth.

Furthermore, he put up eight points on three-of-five shooting in the fourth with Korver on the floor. Sexton showed that he could attack the defense when he had an opening, but he wasn’t forcing anything.

Sexton is far from a finished product, but this was probably the best game we’ve seen him play as a professional. Sexton showed that he can play within the flow of the offense when there is structure around him. That in itself is encouraging.
