Potential trade packages for the Cleveland Cavaliers’ top trade targets
How Lou plays into the deal
Marc Stein, who seems to be pretty good at this whole journalism thing, broke the news that the Cavaliers are also, in fact, interested in Clippers’ guard Lou Williams.
Lou Williams is having himself an all-star caliber year. Williams is averaging 23.2 points and 5.0 assist while shooting 45.0% from the field and 41.2% from three. He’s averaging a career-high in practically every single category and continues to help LAC climb up the Western Conference table.
While the Cavs don’t want to trade the Nets pick for just DeAndre Jordan, if the Clippers throw in Lou Williams, things could get really interesting.
For example, the Cavaliers should certainly entertain a potential trade scenario of this caliber:
Cleveland Cavaliers receive: DeAndre Jordan and Lou Williams
Los Angeles Clippers receive: Tristan Thompson, J.R. Smith, Brooklyn Nets 2018 first round draft pick
With players such as Tristan Thompson and J.R. Smith being featured in potential packages, it could be in Cleveland’s best interest to part ways with the pick. Neither player is performing even close to what their contract indicates they should be.
If acquiring two potential All-stars while unloading two underachieving players on bad contracts is a possibility, then the Cavaliers would be doing themselves a disservice if they didn’t at least think about it.

Whether the Cavs are looking to execute smaller trades, including somebody like George Hill, or potential blockbusters including DeAndre Jordan and/or Lou Williams, the Cavaliers front office certainly has their work cut out for them.
