5: Gordon Hayward

With Boston in the running for landing this big name free agent, the Cavaliers could steal Gordon Hayward from right under their fingertips with the right offer. The problem is, I doubt we have enough money to land Hayward without giving up the likes of Kevin Love or JR Smith. Hayward would be a great two-way player and would actually fit in quite well.

Smith, Thompson, and Shumpert all have proven to be replaceable for their worth. Smith might be the least likely to be dealt, but if Hayward is a serious thought, they could probably make the cap happen.

The problem is that Hayward will get a max. There are so many max contract players that having just one isn’t a rarity anymore, and the Cavaliers would be extremely unlikely to even think about clearing the cap for him.
