The Los Angeles Clippers decided to stand pat through Feb. 21 trade deadline, but they had a deal in the works that would have landed Trevor Ariza back in Los Angeles.

According to David Aldridge, Clippers owner Donald Sterling prohibited a deal that would have sent Caron Butler to the Washington Wizards and returned Trevor Ariza, who has previously played with the Los Angeles Lakers, to L.A.

On paper, it’s a deal that makes sense. The young group of Wizards would benefit from a veteran like Butler, who could provide some much needed scoring. Meanwhile, the Clippers would get Trevor Ariza who would have fit in perfectly with the team.

Ariza is younger and more athletic than Butler and loves to run the floor, which fits well with the Clippers mentality. He would have provided a solid defensive presence on the wing and bring championship experience to the team.

In the end, Sterling decided the move wasn’t worth the risk of jeopardizing the locker room chemistry and the deal didn’t go through.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed veteran guard Derek Fisher, and will join the team for the rest of the season, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo:

Derek Fisher has reached agreement with Oklahoma City on a contract for rest of season, league sources tell Y! Sports.

Fisher was released by the Dallas Mavericks earlier this season, after only playing nine games for the team. He suffered a minor injury and asked the organization to release him because of the hard time he had away from his family.

The 38-year-old veteran is now back in Oklahoma City, where he played last season.
