It seems as though the San Antonio Spurs have gotten rid of the services of Stephen Jackson. According to Adrian Wojnarowski, the forward has been waived by the team:

San Antonio has waived Stephen Jackson, league source tells Y! Sports.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) April 12, 2013

Source on Spurs release of Stephen Jackson: “It’s been brewing for a few days.”

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) April 12, 2013

Since being traded to the Spurs, Jackson found himself in an unfamiliar role, playing behind Kawhi Leonard. His numbers across the board have been very poor, and he was having one of the worst seasons of his career. In 2012-13, Jackson is averaging 6.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He was shooting just 37.3% from the field and 27.1% from beyond the 3-point line.

It will be interesting to see if any team picks up Jackson. It is unlikely that he will play this season, as he is ineligible to play in this years playoffs for any other team than the Spurs.

UPDATE: According to Wojnarowski, Jackson and Spurs’ head coach, Gregg Popovich, have been in a disagreement over the 35-year-old’s role with the team. Despite the disagreement, the two parties decided to ride out the season, but it looks like they did not manage to go the distance.
