NBA Trade Rumors – The Los Angeles Clippers have pulled out of the blockbuster trade that would have sent Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers to LA, with DeAndre Jordan and a first-round pick going the other way, according to Ken Berger of CBS. Here are the latest news on it through the Twittersphere and why the deal ultimately fell apart:

The Clippers informed the Celtics today they are pulling out of the Rivers-Garnett trade talks. "It just got to be too much," source said.

— Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) June 18, 2013

Clippers refused to give additional 1st-round pick, but ultimately $35M extension for Rivers and $3M-plus Jordan trade kicker played part.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 18, 2013

As Clippers-Celtics talks fall apart, several sources tell Y! that Clippers had "cold feet' on the financial payouts needed to close deal.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 18, 2013

Danny Ainge has called Doc Rivers to tell him that talks are done, sources tell Y! Sports. Ainge told him he still wants him as coach.

— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) June 18, 2013

By the looks of it, the main reason the deal fell apart was probably the fact that Clippers owner Donald Sterling is stingy and not the first-round pick that the two teams didn’t agree on. A Clippers first-round pick would not be worth that much considering that the team would be in the playoffs over the next couple of seasons.

The deal made sense for both teams and it now complicates things. The Clippers still haven’t shown an improved roster that would convince Paul to re-sign. The Celtics, on the other hand, will most likely have to either keep Garnett next season or allow him to retire without getting anything in return.

The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers seemingly couldn’t find common ground in their discussions, but got back to negotiating today and there is a possibility the blockbuster deal could happen, according to ESPN.

With the Clippers adamant that prized young guard Eric Bledsoe will not be included in the trade for Garnett, sources told ESPN.com one proposed tweak to end the weekend stalemate in the talks is the prospect of the Clippers taking back the contract of either Courtney Lee or Jason Terry from the Celtics.

Shedding the long-term money owed to either Lee or Terry, sources said, could convince the Celtics to relent on their demand that Bledsoe be included in the trade. A deal could be completed later Monday or by Tuesday, sources said.

This does make sense in a lot of ways. Bledsoe is one of the most attractive trading chips in the league right now, and the Clippers will probably package him into some kind of a deal later this summer. But it’s also blatantly obvious that the Clippers will have to make some kind of concession here, and taking on either Lee or Terry would make sense. The Celtics would get some cap relief, which would help the team to make other moves this summer.

Stay tuned to KJG as we continue to give you the latest on the trade rumors.
