Heel and savior of a franchise are two labels that LeBron James has worn over the course of his career.

LeBron, the King of basketball, with Cleveland as his Kingdom. LeBron, the one free agent who wasn’t allowed to be a free agent. Yet he did abdicate his Cleveland throne, and he did it on live television of all places, breaking the collective hearts of a fan base along the way. Ultimately, he did return to Cleveland as the cavalry with the simple words “I’m coming home”. He delivered to Cleveland something even the most hopeful fan thought was impossible, a championship. This championship came against the NBA’s version of the Juggernaut no less, the 73-win Warriors.

The champagne stains have long since faded, and the clock is once again ticking towards LeBron’s free agency. With free agency, the whispers that he is leaving are getting louder. It would be folly to dismiss LeBron leaving as just mere rumor or conjecture.

He did it once, why not again?

An unpopular view perhaps, but LeBron should be allowed to be a free agent, unlike the last time when he was chastised for coming to his decision. When all is said and done, LeBron should do what is best for LeBron. At this time what’s best for LeBron is heading to California.

Let’s look more closely at why the Cavaliers should not be LeBron’s last career stop.
