The Cleveland Cavaliers should be able to acquire a second-round pick from the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2017 NBA Draft.

If the Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to move into the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft, and with their interest in several second-round draft prospects that certainly looks to be the case, they’ll find a trade partner (or seller) in the Philadelphia 76ers.

Per to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer:

"The thought around the NBA is that the 76ers are set on trading at least one of their second-round picks in the draft to alleviate a possible roster crunch, according to multiple league executives.“They’re trying to sell one of the second-rounders,” said an executive, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.Another said: “Their last two second-rounders are in play [for possible trades]. The word is out there.”"

The 76ers, who own four picks in the second-round of the draft (36, 39, 46, 50) won’t have enough roster space to add five rookies (they also have the third overall pick in the draft) and free agents. With the youth already on the roster and a fan base ready to win, it’s unlikely that the 76ers would have added five rookies if they had the space.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, who met with Gian Clavell, Justin Blackmon Jr., Canyon Barry, Antonio Blakely, Maverick Rowan, Zeek Woodley and Jeremy Morgan at the IMG Academy’s Professional Basketball Combine in mid-May, will likely be one of the teams calling the 76ers on June 22nd. The Cavs have no picks in the draft or cap space but a need to add youth to a team that was tied for the highest average age (29.9) in the league last year, according to Real GM.

With such a deep draft class, the Cleveland Cavaliers could get a valuable young piece to develop while James Jones and Richard Jefferson prepare for their impending retirements. Their exclusive interest in shooting guards suggests that they’ll be looking to add  at least one in the draft.

Last year, it cost the Cavs $2.4 million to buy the 53rd pick in the draft from the Atlanta Hawks and select Kay Felder, according to USA Today’s Lev Facher.

That would make the 50th pick the one the Cavs were most likely to attain through purchase, although it’s possible they’d try to acquire the 46th pick as well.

If the 76ers are willing to trade future second round picks, there’s a possibility that the Cavs could acquire the 76ers 36th or 39th pick. If a player had a first-round rating from them fell to the top of the second round or there was a player they just really liked available, and another team was trying to select them as well, the Cavs could be pull the trigger on a deal.
