The Cleveland Cavaliers have real issues, and as it nears the playoffs, it could be Channing Frye that hits the bench in order to fix the problems.

Channing Frye is a fantastic basketball player, but his lack of defensive presence could hurt his playing time come playoffs. The 6 foot-11 inch big man is used primarily as a floor spacer for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

More from King James Gospel

This season has been solid for Frye. He has been able to play 18.8 minutes per game which is more per game than each of his last two seasons. This is partially due to injury and a shortage of bigs on the Cavaliers.

Overall, Frye has had an above-average year. He averages 1.9 threes per game and shoots the deep ball at an alarming 41%. The frightening part is that he averages just 3.8 rebounds per game and has just a 11.1 rebounding percentage. The Cavs struggle at rebounding, and this could force Lue to tame Frye’s minutes. While sharpshooters and floor spacing are pivotal for this offense, the Cavs have other players that can supplement his shooting like Kyle Korver or Derrick Williams.

Frye was an absolute animal in the postseason last year. He shot over 50% from downtown and was a vital weapon in the comeback against the Warriors, but times have changed. The need for rebounding is greater than ever for the Cavs.

Multiple games this season have been decided by the offensive rebounding margin, and it is pitiful to watch for fans. The fix to this problem is to either play Love more at the five when TT is out, or see if Larry Sanders can help.

In the mean time, we will certainly see Frye because he is a proven scorer, but this postseason, do not be shocked if Frye’s minutes start to decline and his involvement is minimal.
