The Cleveland Cavaliers should rejoice after the performance Larry Sanders put on last night. He’s getting very close to being able to contribute for the Cleveland Cavaliers by the look of things.

It would seem that Cleveland Cavaliers center Larry Sanders has finally got his legs back under him. Although the Canton Charge lost to the Westchester Knicks 108-105, Sanders (who’s on assignment with the Charge) looked like he’s regaining his old form. Sanders finished the game with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks in 21 minutes.

In a highlight video that only began to show justice to the amount of effort he showed all game for the Charge, or many blocks he could have had, Sanders played far better than he had in his first game on assignment with Canton.

Sanders, who not only played as the team’s lone center and rim-protector but at one point in time played beside center Eric Moreland, seemed to have his timing right. Or at least on the right track. That’s what’s most important.

That’s what allowed him to finish the game with three blocks, again. These blocks included stuffing a dunk attempt at the rim and blocking a midrange shot. They didn’t include numerous instances of Sanders swatting the ball as it was on its way up to the rim, only for the referees to blow the whistle and call a foul on him or a teammate away from the ball.

Sanders, who was also known for his ability to block shots at a high rate while keeping his fouls low, will surely be looking to work on that.

Sanders was able to finish around the basket and guard out on the perimeter this game, two extra features of his game that the Cleveland Cavaliers would surely appreciate. I say this because those are two things that Tristan Thompson often does for the Cavs, as he’s consistently on the receiving end of a lob or stepping out on the perimeter trying to stop lane penetration.

Sanders, whose length at 6-foot-11 with a 7-foot-7 wingspan dwarfs Thompson’s, who is 6-foot-10 but has a 7-foot-1 wingspan is far more likely to block shots on the perimeter and around the rim. His length will also make it that much harder for guards to try to get around him with a crossover dribble.

One area where Sanders still needs to improve is as a rebounder. He doesn’t consistently box-out and seems to need to work on his lower body strength before and throughout the playoffs. He recorded 6 rebounds, including 3 on the offensive end,

Nonetheless, he’s still able to use those long arms to swipe the ball towards him in scrams for the rebound.

Sanders may not be completely ready to contribute to the team but he’s very, very close. Hopefully, Sanders will be getting some playing time with the Cleveland Cavaliers in April. Thompson, who clearly needs a rest before the playoffs, may get his R&R after all.
