The Cleveland Cavaliers are signing Larry Sanders to a multi-year deal.

According to The Vertical’s Shams Charania, Larry Sanders and the Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed on a two-year deal.

All that remains is for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Larry Sanders to agree on an option date for stability.

Sanders will come to the Cleveland Cavaliers with much fanfare.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, who were just outrebounded on the offensive boards 20-4 in a loss to the Houston Rockets last night, desperately need help inside.

Tristan Thompson is suffering from knee tendinitis according cleveland.com’s Joe Vardon, and it’s affecting his ability to jump and move around the court. Thompson, who holds the active streak for games played, faces double-teams down low all game as opposing players try to keep him off the offensive boards. Kevin Love, who was injured in mid-February, averages 11.1 rebounds per game, will be out for at least another week as he recovers from knee surgery, according to his six-week timetable. Andrew Bogut, who the Cleveland Cavaliers signed last week, was injured 58 seconds into his debut. The Cavs plan to waive Bogut, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin.

Sanders, who has career averages of 5.8 rebounds (2.0 offensive rebounds) and 1.8 blocks in 19.8 minutes per game, will be expected to put up these types of numbers with the Cavs. At least, eventually.

Sanders has been out of the league since 2014-2015, will need to get back into game condition and will have to get used to banging in the post with bigs again. However, Sanders is a superb athlete and is an instinctual shot-blocker. While Sanders probably won’t look perfect to start, he’ll look a lot better deeper in the playoffs.

This is a move that should have Cleveland Cavaliers fans rejoicing everywhere. They’ve added a player who was once elite, like Deron Williams, but is still in his athletic prime, like Derrick Williams. While it may not be a focal point of the offense, Sanders will be a great roll man in the pick-and-roll, be available for plenty of lobs and around for plenty of putbacks.

My best comparison for the impact Sanders will have on this team? Chris Andersen. Specifically, the “Birdman” that became a fan favorite with the Miami Heat with his shot-blocking and finishing ability.
