After breaking the record for most threes made in a single game, Cleveland Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson believes the team could shatter their own record.

The Cleveland Cavaliers broke the NBA’s regular season single game three-point record last night as they defeated the Atlanta Hawks on the road.

The Cavs, who made 25 out of 46 three-point attempts (54.3 percent), also knocked down 25 threes against the Atlanta Hawks in last year’s playoffs en route to breaking the NBA’s single game three-point record for the playoffs.

Though the game ended with a mere five point difference, don’t be fooled. The Cleveland Cavaliers had this game won at the end of the third quarter as they carried an 18-point lead into the final period. LeBron James (6-10 from three-point range) and Kyrie Irving (5-8 from three-point range) led the way in from behind the arc and every other sense. Channing Frye, Derrick Williams, Richard Jefferson and Kyle Korver knocked in three three-point attempts each and Iman Shumpert chipped in with two three-point makes himself.

Korver actually broke the NBA three-point record with a three-point attempt in the fourth as James tied the record earlier in the quarter.

In a game that was sensational in every way and actually was even better as the Atlanta Hawks put up a valiant effort to make a comeback, it was almost easy to forget that the Cleveland Cavaliers were without two starters. Even more crazy is that these two particular starters, J.R. Smith and Kevin Love, shoot 36.2 percent and 38.4 percent from three-point range respectively.

That the Cavs were actually shorthanded in a record-setting victory wasn’t lost on one person. Cleveland Cavaliers starting center Tristan Thompson noted that the duo was missing and that if they were in the game they could have shattered the three-point record with the hot shooting night they had. In a response to Love’s tweet about the Cavs hot shooting night, Thompson tweeted this.

30 threes isn’t far-fetched considering that Smith and Love make 2.6 and 2.4 three-pointers a game respectively. For the mathematicians in audience, 2.6 + 2.4 = 5.0 and 25 +5 = 30. So, with Love and Smith in the lineup, the Cavs could feasibly hit 30 threes.

Whether Thompson was aware the Cavs were literally missing 5.0 three-pointers per game with Smith and Love out or if he was just surprisingly accurate in his response is unknown. What is known is that the Cleveland Cavaliers will be a very, very dangerous team when fully healthy. Irving and James just combined for 81 points on 28-48 shooting from the field (58.3 percent),11-18 shooting from three-point range (61.1 percent) and 17 assists.

When their third All-Star in Love and a player on track to finish his career as one of the top-five three-point shooters in NBA history in Smith return to the court, the league should be very wary before any matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
