Sunday. Father’s Day. NBA Finals, Game 7. Cleveland Cavaliers Vs. Golden State Warriors.

Cleveland Cavaliers fans: Enjoy The Day!

Cavs fans, we have been through a lot together. We saw players come and go. We experienced the hope, excitement and disappointment of LeBron James 1.0.

We saw a great team with Mark Price, Brad Daugherty, Larry Nance, Hot Rod Williams, Ron Harper, Craig Ehlo and more fall to the Michael Jordan Era.

We felt the pain of LeBron leaving.

We found hope in draft picks, crazy trades (“Glasses on” Chris Grant), lesser known players (Hi Manny Harris) and a future that may or may not ever come to pass.

Now we are here. The Cavaliers are where no other Cavs team has ever been. They are 1 game away from an NBA Title. They are 1 win away from putting all the “sad, depressed, downtrodden, pathetic, pained, Factory of Sadness” Cleveland storylines to rest.

For fans of Cleveland sports, this is our day. It is our day to hope. Unlike the NFL Draft, our Cleveland Browns Super Bowl, this day’s hope is built around at least a 50/50 chance that before Monday hits, a Cleveland team will be CHAMPION.

Our hope is built around the best player in the game, playing downhill in a way that is unprecedented. Getting his teammates involved, talking smack to the “MVP” and hitting jumpers that makes him unguardable.

Our hope is built around young players Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson being great at what they do. Irving with his handles, drives and shot making ability has put more Warriors on skates than the US hockey team. Thompson’s relentless pursuit of every ball, rim running and ability to switch on defense has taken the heart of the 73 win Warriors.

Our hope is in a team that is winning as blue collar, tough-minded and hard-nosed as the city whose name they represent. The Cavs have taken the physical to the Warriors and the West Coasters haven’t been able to respond with anything but words, whining and pouting.

So today, Cavs fans, live in that hope. While you are with your families, at church or just being around fellow fans, remember this day. Remember the feeling of excitement, of being so nervous that you rip your last pair of contacts (that is me), of hope, of joy and of coming together as one with each other.

More from King James Gospel

Tonight, the Cleveland Cavaliers could lose to the Golden State Warriors and this day still be one for the ages. People raised in and around Cleveland are flocking home to be in the city for tonight. The storybook ending is in sight but it is the day, the experience, the roller coaster and the community that makes this special.

Tonight, the Cleveland Cavaliers will beat the Golden State Warriors. I do not know how, I do not know why and I do not know if I am right. What I do know is that the city, the fanbase and the state are all ready for it.

Before that happens, this day. Today, is our day Cavs fans. Enjoy this day for everything it took to get here, everything that it will be and for everyone you get to share it with. Today, is the day.

How will you spend today Cavs fans?
