Kevin Love Reiterates His Plans to Return to Cavs Next Year

While media, fans, bloggers and even ex-players weigh on on Kevin Love‘s future with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he once again is stating that he will return to the team next year. Love has been consistent in his statements. When the Cavs traded for him he talked about being in Cleveland for a long time. When rumors popped up that he could leave he said he didn’t plan on leaving for LA. Now, with some talking about him struggling as the third wheel, he once again has reiterated his plans to stay in Cleveland:

We are not sure how many times he will need to say it for someone to believe him. Obviously he won’t be able to do anything right now that would change anyone’s mind. Once the summer hits he can opt in to his contract, something he has talked about doing, or he can opt out and re-sign with the Cavs. If he re-signs for multiple years it should end this conversation finally.

If he opts in, and given the wording of Ruiter’s tweet we assume this will happen today as well, the talk will just continue that he will leave after NEXT year. This happened when Dwight Howard opted in to his contract with the Orlando Magic during the middle of the season. That off-season he was dealt to the Lakers.

While Love has had his share of problems he is still averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds. His efficiency and 3 point shooting has not been what we had hoped but his all around game has been great for the Cavs. He has an inside offensive game, still rebounding at a high level, is a threat from deep which opens up passing lanes and is a smart passer, including his famous outlet passes.

Kevin Love has stated over and over again that he plans to return to Cleveland. He has never flip flopped, he has never thrown out the normal “We’ll see what happens” that other players do and he has shown little problem with his time in Cleveland. The team is still figuring out how best to use Love but the effort is clearly there and the talent on the team has made things work fairly well in bringing together 11 new players and a whole lot of talent.

Do you believe Kevin Love or do you think he is just saying the right thing?
