Cavs Rumor: Ray Allen Decision Within 10 Days; Cavs Still in

facebooktwitterreddit

The Cleveland Cavaliers were in pursuit of Ray Allen soon after LeBron James made the decision to come back home. There were some reports that Allen only wanted to play with LeBron if he came back. Instead of signing on and playing with the Cavs all season, Allen has sat out. During that time a number of other teams, specifically the Atlanta Hawks, San Antonio Spurs and LA Clippers, have shown interest in Allen. The Cavs rumors surrounding Allen continue.

We have now entered February and Allen remains unsigned. Most teams have less than 30 games left. According to a new report by Sam Amico Allen is close to making a decision:

It looks like the Cavaliers are still in it as Allen doesn’t have the concerns about the team anymore. The question becomes whether the Cavs really want Allen at this point. J.R. Smith is starting at shooting guard for the Cavs with Iman Shumpert, Mike Miller and Joe Harris backing them up. Smith plays a ton of minutes, and has earned them with his good defense and strong shooting. Shumpert has been increasing his minutes and is playing well while Miller has struggled and Harris is a rookie.

It is unclear where Allen would find the type of minutes that he might want to return. The Cavs have also been looking for a backup point guard and big man, Allen solves none of those problems. He is however the greatest shooter in the history of the league and has hit a number of big shots in his career. He is close with LeBron as well as Miller and James Jones. Those relationships could be big for the Cavs pursuit of Allen.

The other team’s courting Allen may be able to offer him more playing time. The Hawks have been playing great but only have John Jenkins backing up Kyle Korver. The Spurs could use Allen to backup Danny Green to keep shooting on the floor, something the Spurs love for spacing.

Amico just updated his report and has the Golden State Warriors, not the Spurs, in the discussion:

Either way hopefully the Ray Allen saga ends soon. Maybe he joins the Cavs and hits the all important shot like he did against the Spurs. Maybe he does the same for another team. Yet maybe, just maybe Allen’s signing has little to no impact on anything in the Playoffs this year.

What do you think Ray Allen decides?
