Kevin Love Could Leave Cavs According to Local Report

The drama around the Cleveland Cavaliers is mostly from the outside looking in. The media, both national and local, has focused on what was wrong with the team. Even some national, and regional outside of Cleveland, media members have noted they believe Kevin Love could leave the Cavs after this season.

Today a new report is out that Love could leave but this time it is a local writer, one that has not been prone to trying to create controversy. Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal noted what he has heard from league executives from around the league about Love possibly leaving. For context we will paste the whole response:

"What are the chances as of now that Kevin Love re-signs a long term contract with the team? Discussions started? @melz19230Love is unlikely to sign long term this summer because of the salary cap. He is expected to opt out of his current contract at the end of the season for cap purposes, but he might only sign a one-year deal to line up for what is expected to be a significant cap spike in the summer of 2016.Love has said all the right things about re-signing with the Cavs this summer and the Cavs continue to insist he’s here long term. Executives around the league, however, continue to believe Love could leave Cleveland at the end of the season. We’ll see. There is still a long way to go."

Wow!

Obviously Lloyd can only communicate what he is hearing from around the league. It is possible that the executives that he is hearing from have bad information, selfish intentions or they could truly know something none of us wants to admit: Kevin Love could leave the Cavs after this season.

The good thing here is that nothing really matters at this point. The Cavaliers should get better as the season goes on because LeBron James will get healthy and they have added three vital pieces in J.R. Smith, Timofey Mozgov and Iman Shumpert. Once all the players get time together healthy the Cavs should be able to be successful.

If the Cavs make a deep run in the playoffs, somewhere Love has never been, he is unlikely to want to leave. The Cavs can offer him more money and the most talented teammates compared to any team that could offer him max money.

If things are bad behind the scenes or the team falls apart it is possible that Love leaves but at this point the Cavs are the heavy favorite, no matter what league executives are telling Lloyd.

What do you think about the now local report about Kevin Love leaving after the season?
