Thankful for Cavs: Past, Present and Future

Today is Thanksgiving. A great American holiday.

For some this is a day that is all about eating a lot of food. For some today is all about sports, mostly football. Others it is all about family. For some it is just a day off or a day to shop, now that Black Friday is now starting days in advance.

No matter what we hope that you are enjoying the day. We hope that you are finding plenty of things to be thankful for. We hope that our coverage of our Cleveland Cavaliers is something you are thankful for, and we plan to give you more reasons for that to be true.

Here are things we are thankful for with the Cavs: Past, Present and Future.

Past

The Cavs have such an interesting history. They have some great players that played there for years. For me that starts back in the Mark Price, Brad Daugherty, Ron Harper, Craig Ehlo and Larry Nance version of the Cavaliers. Hot Rod Williams was the first nickname I remember. While that team never got the title many hoped for, that team drew me in as an NBA fan.

Some of the recent past I am thankful for involves our Ohio son, LeBron James. The James led Cavaliers created excitement not seen since the Cleveland Indians almost won the World Series. James surpassed that as we had the most dominate player in a league for once. It was not to last and no championship was delivered but that timeframe was a lot of fun and made me thankful to be a Cavs fan.

Even after James left fans packed The Q for awhile. That made me proud to be connected to the Cavs faithful.

Present

Now we get to cheer on LeBron again. This time he comes with Kevin Love to join Kyrie Irving. A far more talented team than we ever expected to have. Real Cavs fans have stuck around and remember every move that Chris Grant made to try to get the team back to a competitive level after James left. New fans have jumped on board and hopefully get the passion of long term fans.

Future

The future of the Cavs is also bright. I am thankful for a team that isn’t a bunch of post-prime players like the last time James was around. Instead with Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters, Joe Harris, Matthew Dellavedova, Love and Irving the Cavs have a young bunch that should develop around the best player in the world.

David Griffin has also acquired assets that could be used to bring in other players that can really help the team. They could bring in a $6 million player this year and then add a big money player next year with the Brendan Haywood contract. The Cavs are not done. I am also thankful that the LeBron James that has come back is a recruiter. Players are going to want to come play with James, Irving and Love. That is exciting.
