Cleveland Cavaliers likely to trade Tristan Thompson

The Cleveland Cavaliers got LeBron James this offseason but they still have questions that need answering on the roster and some of those questions are pressing.

When it comes to who LeBron is replacing in the lineup, Tristan Thompson is suddenly a man without a home and it appears he could be out of a job soon. Thompson has gone from a starter and a rising star in 2013-14 to a bench player and Sixth Man at best in 2014-15.

Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors believes the Cavaliers will eventually trade Thompson.

I don’t know that Bennett has too much to do with Thompson. The Cavs never seemed to hesitate to put him in the Love deal, but that’s because they apparently want to contend right away. I actually think the Love swap makes it less likely the Cavs will come to a new deal with Thompson, since there’s little reason to keep two highly paid power forwards around. Thompson is a starter in this league, and he’ll have to go somewhere else to do that.

A trade wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world for either party as Thompson could fetch decent return for the Cavaliers and they could use him to grab some depth at point guard and center.

It’s hard to let Thompson go, but with LeBron James and Kevin Love locking down the forward positons, Thompson is too talented to waste away in a bench role and he deserves to start somewhere in the NBA where he can get a chance to shine like he started to in Cleveland.
