The Cleveland Cavaliers may have put together an offseason that landed them LeBron James but there are holes on the roster that need to be addressed and need to be addressed now if the Cavs want any chance of competing for an NBA title with any sort of seriousness in 2014-15.
One position that needs to be upgraded is center and there may be options out there — affordable ones — that fill this hole for the Cavaliers.
Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors wonders if they might make a run at Oklahoma City Thunder big man Hasheem Thabeet.
Well, it’s obvious they consider it a priority, since they reportedly offered a first-round pick for Mozgov. They would have had to give up salary in that transaction to make it work, too. I wonder if they might give OKC a call about Hasheem Thabeet. He’d be cheaper to come by, and if there’s a way to make it work as a money-saving deal for the Thunder, Sam Presti just might do it.
The Cavaliers absolutely need to make a run at Thabeet as they have a dire need for depth at center. Point guard is a more glaring issue but the Cavaliers getting Thabeet would not only make their front court even better than it is, but it would add center depth the team doesn’t have but needs if they want to make a serious run at a title.
