The Cleveland Cavaliers added LeBron James this summer and as a result it’s been a free-for-all in adding talent to the roster.
Already the likes of Mike Miller, James Jones and Kevin Love have been added with Ray Allen pending as an addition to the team. But there’s another veteran out there who hasn’t been talked about very much but could end up being a part of the roster.
According to Jared Zwerling, Billups remains a serious candidate for the Cavaliers, but it appears that he’d be joining the bench in a capacity other than that of an assistant coach.
Keep hearing Chauncey Billups is a serious candidate for Cleveland. He’s been close for years with Tyronn Lue. CB has options in media, too.

Zwerling clarifies and confirms that this interest with Billup is in regards to his playing with the team, not serving as an assistant under David Blatt.
Regarding Chauncey Billups, a serious candidate to play; not to be an assistant coach. Just to clarify my previous tweet. Thanks. — Jared Zwerling (@JaredZwerling) August 14, 2014
Billups is an interesting option for the Cavaliers as he provides veteran depth that the team needs but also acts as an unconventional name that is being discussed. It’s not that he’s a bad option for the Cavaliers, he’s just an option that hasn’t been talked about much but makes sense for the Cavs.
