The Internet strikes again. After many speculated that the Cleveland Cavaliers and the NBA removed Andrew Wiggins’ No. 21 Cavs jersey from the NBA shop website because of a forthcoming trade for Kevin Love, some of those people were put at ease on Monday. Late Sunday night a black and gold version of the Wiggins No. 21 Cavs jersey surfaced on the NBA online shop, and a league spokesmen spoke to NBCSports.com regarding the situation.
But what about the Timberwolves owner’s words stating that Kevin Love would be traded by August 23 or 24, the same exact day that Andrew Wiggins becomes available to the trade market due to the No. 1 pick signing his rookie contract on July 24. According to the league spokesmen who talked to NBCSports.com, the Andrew Wiggins jerseys, and all other jerseys on the site, go through a period where they are sold out but listed as discontinued on the website. Although no team was stated, the home, away and alternate Andrew Wiggins jerseys will be available on October 1, in time for the upcoming NBA season.
This doesn’t mean that the Cavaliers are going to keep Andrew Wiggins either. The Minnesota owner saying that a deal will be done by the 23rd or 24th of this month seems like yet another smokescreen from the Timberwolves camp. Although it is very unlikely that the Cavaliers can’t land Love without giving up Wiggins, the dates that Glen Taylor mentioned may just be a coincidence or to get fans and owners thinking. The way this offseason has gone, it should be a surprise to no one if that’s the case.
