Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving was named to the 2012 USA Select Team while Team USA was prepping for the 2012 Olympics in London. Following an impressive showing and two All-Star seasons, Kyrie was named to the Team USA roster a couple weeks ago to compete for a spot on the 12-man roster for the upcoming FIBA World Championships. Now Dion Waiters is getting his chance to rep the red, white and blue.
On Tuesday, in a press release put out by USA Basketball, Dion Waiters was one of 13 players to be announced to the 2014 USA Select Team. That means Waiters will compete against Irving and the rest of the members of Team USA vying for a spot this summer much like Irving did in 2012.
Here are the other members of the 2014 USA Select Team:
Harrison Barnes (Golden State Warriors)
Trey Burke (Utah Jazz)
Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls)
Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors)
Tim Hardaway Jr. (New York Knicks)
Tobias Harris (Orlando Magic)
Doug McDermott (Chicago Bulls)
Victor Oladipo (Orlando Magic)
Mason Plumlee (Brooklyn Nets)
Miles Plumlee (Phoenix Suns)
Marcus Smart (Boston Celtics)
Cody Zeller (Charlotte Bobcats)
Dion Waiters will train against Team USA during the July 28-31 period during their training camp in Las Vegas. Make sure to support your Cavaliers donning the country’s colors this summer.
