LeBron James will wear No. 32 for Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James is coming back to Cleveland and it still feels like a dream for Cavaliers fans. The old rivalries are going to get kicked back up, the winning ways willl return and Cleveland is going to be hopping for the first time in four years.

But while you may be jonesing to bust out the old Cavs No. 23 jersey or have ordered your cavs No. 6 jersey, expect to see a new number on LeBron’s back when he takes the court again in Cleveland this year.

According to RealGM, LeBron James is expected to wear his old high school jersey number when he returns to the Cavaliers.

Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reported this as well, prior to James’ decision to head home.

One interesting note from an NBA source: If James returned to Cleveland, he would wear No. 32. He wore No. 23 with the Cavs before and No. 6 with the Heat. The source also indicated James is close to announcing his decision.

It’s an interesting move but it just goes to show that LeBron really is connecting to his roots in Ohio and is serious about coming home to fulfill his legacy and his destiny.

So a few years ago ge says he’s not going to wear 23 out of respect for MJ, but wears 6 (Russell) & 32 (Magic). OK then.

The Heat officially retired 23 out of respect for MJ before he joined, so it’s not just his own doing

But didn’t LeBron announce that decision before he ever left Cleveland?

        • Dragonzord

I’m not sure, it probably has to do with brand building. Jordan stands well above Russell and Magic in that field so if Lebron wants his peice of the pie, he’ll need a different number

The Heat did retire 23 during the 03 season, MJ’s last with the Wizards. BUT before LeBron signed with the Heat, he turned in paperwork with the league to change his # from 23 to 6, which you have to do when changing your # unless you switch teams.

Exactly, he announced it before signing with Heat. My point is the numbers he’s wore since are from great legends who were important to the game. 6 has been worn by Russel, Dr J & 32 was worn by Magic. Also he’s a business, by wearing a new number people gotta buy his jersey instead of wearing old one. He does have the top selling jersey.

07/11/1 – date of his announcement
’07 ’11 ’14 – years where he lost in the finals
    7 + 11 + 14 = 32

      illuminati!!! LOL

Is this confirmed yet? I haven’t heard anything out of James and none of the major networks are reporting this as fact (and only a couple are even reporting it as rumor). I guess it would be cool, the Cavs no doubt would retire both #’s for James when he retires & unless the Lakers do the same for Kobe’s #8 and 24, he’d be the first athlete I’ve ever seen with 2 #’s retired by one franchise (and maybe one day his #6 by the Heat?)

Still though, I want my #23 James Cavs jersey to be relevant again and not just a “throwback” so I hope he goes back to that #.

The no. 23 was burnt. Remember?
