NBA Free Agency Rumors: Jarrett Jack for Marcus Thornton talks to heat up

Last week there were possible discussions that the Cleveland Cavaliers could be sending guard Jarrett Jack to the Brooklyn Nets for shooting guard Marcus Thornton. With news recently breaking that guard Shaun Livingston is heading from the Nets to the Golden State Warriors, those talks will most likely be resurrected, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

Jack recently signed a four-year contract with the Cavaliers last summer. Although the move wouldn’t alleviate any cap space during this offseason, it could affect the Cavs dealings this summer because the signing of Thornton would essentially mean the end of the C.J. Miles era in Cleveland. Also, since Thornton is entering the final year of his contract this season, it would free up space down the road and prevent the Cavs from being locked down with Jack for the next three seasons.

The Cavaliers talked with the Nets last season regarding a mid-season trade sending Jack to Brooklyn. Although talks never progressed past rumors, it is very likely that the Nets will be looking for a feisty two-way guard with the recent departure of Shaun Livingston.

Last season for the Nets, Thornton averaged 9.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and shot 34.5 percent from three.
