Cavs Trade Alonzo Gee for Dwight Powell and Brendan Haywood

The Cavs were not done with their evening after the 33rd pick tonight, dealing for Brendan Haywood and the 45th pick in the draft, with which they selected forward Dwight Powell from Stanford:

Powell is a 6’11” power forward who averaged 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists for the Cardinal last year. He’s an excellent athlete with promising shooting touch, who can rebound and guard the perimeter. Even at his size, he seems tailored for the small forward position in the NBA, which makes him the anti-Anthony Bennett. He’s a likely D-Leaguer, and helps fill out the Cavs’ now very intriguing summer league team. Powell is also Canadian, and is another piece in the Cavs’ move to host Team Canada’s 2016 Olympics training, as the roster now features four forwards from the great white north. Haywood, on the other hand, comes back to the team who originally drafted him 20th in the 2001 NBA Draft. Haywood has had a very productive career for the Wizards, Mavericks, and Bobcats, although he’s dealt with injuries the last few seasons. He is on an expiring $2 million contract. Haywood’s big contribution to the team will likely not be on the court, even though he solidifies center depth. Haywood is a great person and leader, and will be a stabilizing force in the locker room. He’s been around the block a few times, won a ring with the 2011 Mavericks, and should be a guy that helps keep the locker room together, an aspect that absolutely cannot be overlooked. No details on what the Cavs sent to the Hornets, if anything, are available at this time.

UPDATE: 12:59pm

ALONZO GEE IS GONE!

No longer will we have to watch him chuck contested three pointers! No longer will he have to attempt to guard the best offensive wing on an opposing team!

WE NEVER HAVE TO WATCH A MINUTE OF GEE PLAYING IN A CAVS UNIFORM AGAIN, MUCH LESS 2500+ IN A SEASON

I MIGHT BE HAPPIER ABOUT THIS THAN I AM ABOUT WIGGINS

GEE HEADS TO CHARLOTTE. CAVS GET WIGGINS. GOOD NIGHT AND SWEET DREAMS, CAVS FANS.
