Former Maccabi Tel Aviv head coach David Blatt has been offered the same job with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports and Fox Sports 1. After news broke today that the Cavs had narrowed their search to Blatt and Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Tyronn Lue, it was quickly trumped by news that the Cavs are now working on a contract with Blatt.
No agreement has been made official yet, but the Cavaliers and Blatt’s representatives are working on structuring the contract as of now. Once Blatt is officially named head coach of the Cavs, he will be made the first head coach to make the leap from Europe to the NBA. Many thought that Blatt was going to take the assistant coaching job with the Golden State Warriors, but the Cavs made the move on Thursday to land the former Mccabi Tel Aviv coach.
The hiring of Blatt comes just one week before the 2014 NBA Draft. The Cavaliers have the No. 1 pick this year and will select on June 26.
