Former Cleveland Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant spoke with CBS Sports and Gary Parrish on Tuesday about what it’s like to have the No. 1 pick if you’re the general manager of an NBA team. Grant, who was responsible for drafting All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving and last year’s No. 1 pick, power forward Anthony Bennett, will now be watching from home when the Cavs select first overall on June 26.
In the video below, Grant touched on the tasks a GM has to complete in a calendar year leading up to the draft, being able to pick out a high-profile player (i.e. Tim Duncan, David Robinson), the importance of testing players for medical aliments (even though Grant selected two players during his tenure who didn’t go through workouts) and even who he thinks the Cavs should select with the No. 1 pick.
