According to a report from Chris Haynes of Comcast Sportsnet, the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in former Seattle SuperSonics and Portland Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan for their head job. McMillan is currently an assistant coach on Frank Vogel’s Indiana Pacers staff. The Los Angeles Lakers, the only other NBA team without a head coach, are the other team interested in McMillan.
According to the report, McMillan does not yet have an interview scheduled with either team. In 12 years as a head coach, McMillan has a coaching record of 478-452 with the SuperSonics and Trail Blazers. He made the playoffs five times as a head coach. McMillan also worked under Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team.
If McMillan does interview with the Cavs, he will be the eighth coach to do so, joining Alvin Gentry, Mark Price, Lionel Hollins, Vinny Del Negro, Tyronn Lue, David Blatt and Adrian Griffin. This does not include John Calipari or Tom Izzo, who were reportedly both offered full control of the Cavs at some point in the past month.
