According to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal, former Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro interviewed for the Cleveland Cavaliers job over the weekend. From Lloyd’s piece:
Vinny Del Negro interviewed with the Cavaliers over the weekend, a league source with knowledge of the interview confirmed, bringing the total to five known coaching candidates who have interviewed for the vacant coaching job.
The source spoke on condition of anonymity because the Cavs aren’t making their coaching search public.
Del Negro, 47, is close personally to Cavs General Manager David Griffin. His contract was not renewed after last season despite guiding the Los Angeles Clippers to a 56-26 finish. They lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs and Del Negro departed amid numerous reports star guard Chris Paul wasn’t in favor of keeping him.
Del Negro joins a group of candidates that includes Alvin Gentry, Adrian Griffin, Tyronn Lue and Lionel Hollins. No timetable has been given for the search to be completed.
