Canton Charge coach Hetzel leaves for the Hornets

Canton Charge head coach Steve Hetzel will be getting his own NBA call-up.  First reported by Yahoo! Sports, Hetzel will be taking a job on Steve Clifford’s staff with the newly renamed Charlotte Hornets.

Here’s a breakdown from The Plain Dealer:

The Charlotte Hornets will hire Canton Charge head coach Steve Hetzel as an assistant coach, Yahoo Sports reported on Thursday. The Charlotte Observer confirmed the report but added that nothing was official yet.

Hetzel started as a Cavaliers video coordinator during Mike Brown’s first stint in Cleveland, then moved to Detroit as an assistant to John Kuester.

He replaced Alex Jensen in Canton this season after Jensen left for a job with the Utah Jazz and led the Charge to a 28-22 record before losing in the first round of the playoffs.
