The Los Angeles Clippers are about to be under new ownership.
According to the L.A. Times, former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer won a frantic bidding war for the franchise owned by disgraced incumbent Donald Sterling.
The deal would make the Clippers the most valuable team in the NBA.
In comparison, the Milwaukee Bucks were sold earlier this year for just $550m, while the Philadelphia 76ers were worth just $330m three years ago.
Ballmer, CEO at tech giant Microsoft for fourteen years, was previously involved in attempting to return an NBA franchise to Seattle.
He has indicated in previous interviews he would not move the Clippers from their California home, as doing so would be “value-destructive.”
The NBA and commissioner Adam Silver will be relieved to see the deal concluded and lawsuits avoided.
