Tuesdays With Right Down Euclid – Episode 76

Editor’s Note: Due to Chris being on vacation, Trevor and Chris recorded this podcast before Mike Brown was fired as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers. There will also be a special edition of the podcast going up tomorrow to break down Brown’s firing and who could be the Cavaliers’ next head coach.

Welcome to “Tuesdays with Right Down Euclid.” Every Tuesday the RDE editor and host Chris Manning is joined by various members of the RDE staff and/or outside guests to talk the latest Cleveland Cavaliers and NBA news to keep you informed on headlining topics in the form of back-and-forth discussion. Manning and whomever is on the show will cover the most important subjects in a four-quarter (and overtime) breakdown spanning from the shores of Lake Erie to all around the NBA.

In the 76th episode, host Chris Manning is joined by site blogger Trevor Magnotti to discuss what’s next for Tyler Zeller, Anthony Bennett Sergey Karsev and Carrick Felix, talk their most recent Cavaliers big board and take a very early look at free agency.

I’m curious on some of these picks. Anthony Tolliver as a 3-4 tweener is a position that Anthony Bennett fills. Unless you are bringing him with the intention of starting him at the 3 you are sort of pushing in the direction of considering Bennett a bust and pushing him partly out of the rotation.

Our top priority this free agency should be to resign Spencer Hawes, if we can get him for a reasonable price he is a great piece going forward, this also considers the fact that there are not many realistic free agents at the center position. Marcin Gortat is either going to be overpaid by a team, or will be overpaid by Washington to stay.

As sad as it is, Varejao should probably be let go if we can get Hawes back his injury history and deteriorating skill is not worth the 9 million tag, we could look into a player like Jordan Hill for probably $5 mil a year who is basically a younger Varejao and can play both big man spots, his rebounding % is on par with some of the top rebounding leaders this season.

The thing that draws me to Tolliver is that he’s a master at corner threes. That’s something the Cavs have been terrible at hitting the last couple of seasons, and Tolliver would likely spend a lot of time floating on the baseline offensively, so I think he and Bennett could play together. Tolliver is also strong enough to be a small-ball center, a role he played a ton of in Atlanta. I think that would give the Cavs some really interesting lineup options, and he’s a decent defensive player too.
