Cleveland Cavaliers news: Miles, Waiters and Varejao out vs. Toronto

When the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Toronto Raptors tonight at Quicken Loans Arena, they will once again be without three of their key players. Guard Dion Waiters, guard C.J. Miles and center Anderson Varejao will again be out due to injury. Waiters is still recovering from a hyperextended left knee suffered against the Philadelphia 76ers, while Miles is still recovering from an ankle injury suffered against the Orlando Magic. Varejao, meanwhile, is dealing with a back injury and there is no timetable on when he will be able to return to the court.

As the Cavaliers head into the month of March, the sooner they can get these three players back, the better. Over the past few games, it has been clear how important Waiters and Miles are to the Cavaliers as constructed. Without Waiters and Miles, Cleveland has had to turn to Jarrett Jack more and he hasn’t responded well. Over his last three games, Jack is 9-30 from the field and struggling to find a rhythm in the offense.

As for Varejao, if the Cavaliers want to use him down the stretch, they are going to need to find his spot alongside the recently acquired Spencer Hawes. It goes with being said that he can’t do that while watching game after game in street clothes. Still, considering his injury history, it’s probably better for him to take the necessary time to recover before returning to the court.
