According to Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal, the Cavaliers and Wizards are discussing a trade that would send Luol Deng to Washington, in exchange for Trevor Ariza.
Ken Berger of CBS Sports is reporting that Cleveland has backed off of its demand of a first round draft pick in exchange for Deng and now are asking for a veteran, to help the team’s playoff push.
The Cavaliers are in the midst of a three-year playoff drought and currently sit 10th in the Eastern Conference, three games behind Charlotte for eighth.
Since coming to Cleveland, Deng is averaging 14.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, while playing 32 minutes a night.
Ariza, is averaging 14.3 points and 6.3 rebounds, playing 35 minutes a night, this season.
Deng’s contract is nearly double Ariza’s, as he makes $14,275,000 compared to Ariza’s $7,727,280 figure. Meaning that other players will have to be involved in order to complete this trade, ahead of the 3 pm deadline.
