The Miami Heat signed Roger Mason Jr. last summer, but his tenure with the reigning NBA champions has come to an early end. According to Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the Heat were looking to open up a roster spot, presumably to fill it with another player, and have agreed to trade Mason to the Sacramento Kings.

Sacramento has agreed to acquire Roger Mason Jr. from the Heat, but is expected to waive him, league source says.

The Kings will also get cash as part of the deal, and are expected to use that to waive Mason. According to Marc Stein no draft picks will be included in this deal.

This means that Mason will be without a team, and that’s a pretty tough situation to be in at this stage of his career. According to David Alridge, who also confirmed the deal, Mason told him in a text that he is not quite sure where he wants to play moving forward.

UPDATE: As part of the deal, it also seems that the Kings will be sending a highly protected second-round pick to Miami.
