NBA Trade Rumors — The Houston Rockets are almost a lock to make a deal before the deadline, as the team’s GM Daryl Morey is known for pulling off deadline deals. Whether or not the Rockets will be looking to make a major deal remains to be seen, but one player the team is certainly interested in is Rajon Rondo. Marc Stein offered the following outlook on the current situation:

Sources familiar w/Rockets thinking say HOU has absolute interest in trading for Rajon Rondo. But that alone doesn’t mean we’ll see a deal.

Close relationship between Danny Ainge and Daryl Morey means talks are always easy to fire up but Celts’ demands for Rondo are very high.

Celtics got a first for Doc Rivers and multiple firsts for Pierce/KG, as covered today on Stein Line LIve. For Rondo they’ll want even more.

Celtics, I’m told, would insist on Chandler Parsons in a theoretical Rondo deal. And Rockets, by all accounts, NOT willing to surrender CP.

As many other rumors at this point, this seems like mere speculation at this point. Both teams have a plethora of assets, and Rondo is probably attainable, but as Stein mentions, it’s highly unlikely Houston would give up Parsons in any deal.

Parsons is having a terrific season and is one of the better small forwards in the West. The Rockets can use his versatility at both forward positions and moving him would obviously leave a huge gap in Houston’s frontcourt. At the same time, the Rockets already have Jeremy Lin and Patrick Beverley, so while Rondo would be a huge upgrade, it’s not like the team is desperate to add a starting point guard.
