NBA Trade Rumors — The Cleveland Cavaliers are reported to be listening to potential offers for Luol Deng, who they acquired through a trade earlier this season. According Ken Berger of CBS Sports, the Dallas Mavericks have already expressed their interest in the small forward.
The Mavs, a possible free-agent destination for Luol Deng, have called the Cavs about a possible trade, league source says.
Dallas, though, lacks the necessary assets to get Cleveland engaged in any serious talks.
As Berger mentions, it’s hard seeing the Mavericks muster up enough assets to swing a deal here. A lot of it comes down to just how much the Cavaliers value Deng at this point. He is a quality player, but is also on an expiring contract and could leave for nothing this summer.
If we allow ourselves to speculate, Shawn Marion, who was actually linked with Cleveland last summer, would most likely have to be included in a potential deal. Other than Marion, the Mavericks really don’t have much else to offer. The team has been mostly signing role players to short-term contracts over the last couple of offseasons, hoping to land a big-time free agent, so they don’t have many young players that could interest the Cavaliers. Another slightly interesting name could be Jae Crowder, but it’s hard seeing the two teams finding a mutually beneficial deal.
