In an entertaining warmup to tonight’s headline event the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest, the trio of Miami Heat star Chris Bosh, former NBA legend Dominique Wilkins and longtime WNBA star Swin Cash repeated as Sears Shooting Stars champions.
Bosh’s first half-court shot attempt swished through the net for a time of 31.6 seconds, washing away Team Durant’s time of 43.6 seconds and giving Team Bosh its second consecutive win in the event.
Representing the Eastern Conference, Team Bosh’s win resulted in a $100,000 donation to the American Heart Association & U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
The four-team event called for a current NBA Player, an NBA legend and a current or former WNBA player on each squad.
Each team had to make a short jumper outside the block, a straight on two-pointer a step inside the three-point line and a wing three, before moving to the half-court shot.
Team Curry (Steph Curry, father Dell Curry and Becky Hammon) and Team Hardaway (Tim Hardaway Jr., Tim Hardaway Sr. and Elena Delle Donne) were eliminated in round one after each team couldn’t knock down the half-court heave until after a minute had surpassed. Bosh nailed his team’s half-courter at 35 seconds to move to the finals, while Team Durant, comprised of Kevin Durant, Karl Malone and Skylar Diggins, advanced on Durant’s half-court make.
In the finals, Diggins hit Team Durant’s mid-court heave, but Bosh responded with plenty of time to spare to secure the victory.
