1934 – Happy 80th birthday to retired Boston Celtics center Bill Russell, who spent 13 years in the league and coached for eight seasons. He was an 11-time champion, five-time MVP and 12-time All-Star. Russell’s 22.5 rebound per game average is the second-best all-time. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1975 and was honored by the Celtics with his own statue in Boston earlier this season.
