Late Friday evening, rumors spread that the Indiana Pacers were meeting with Andrew Bynum to discuss a potential deal. On Saturday, a deal has been finalized and the big man has been signed to a contract for the rest of this season.
The Indiana Pacers announced Saturday they have signed free agent center Andrew Bynum to a contract for the remainder of the season. Per team policy, no terms were released.
“It really wasn’t a hard decision, I think it’s the right fit for me and, in all honesty, I think we’ve got the best chance of winning,” said Bynum. “It will be great to back up Roy and I’ll do whatever I can to help this team.”
Bynum was waived earlier this season by the Cleveland Cavaliers, after rumors surfaced that he didn’t enjoy playing basketball anymore. Despite that, the Pacers must have been convinced after meeting with Bynum, and will have another big body behind Roy Hibbert and David West.
Many have already speculated whether Índiana might have brought in Bynum just to prevent the Miami Heat from signing him, but Larry Bird dismissed such rumors as the dumbest thing he’s ever heard.
