NBA Trade Rumors
Here we go again. A Blake Griffin for Carmelo Anthony swap is not something that is unheard of in the rumor mill, but ESPN reports that the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers have, internally, considered the trade.
With the looming possibility of Carmelo Anthony departing New York as a free agent this summer, New York Knicks officials have discussed proposing a trade to the Los Angeles Clippers for Blake Griffin, according to league sources.
Sources say Clippers management also has had internal discussions about such a deal but that the clubs have not yet spoken to one another about a potential trade.
As of now, neither team is certain it would make an Anthony-for-Griffin trade, the sources said.
The report also suggests that the alleged internal discussion on the Clippers’ side ended with the conclusion of keeping Griffin, while the Knicks still intend to re-sign Anthony in the offseason.
There have been some rumors that Anthony could consider signing with some other teams this summer and the Knicks’ play this season has certainly not been encouraging to an aging superstar in pursuit of a championship.
Logically, this would be a pretty good move for New York, especially considering the risk of losing Melo for nothing this summer. However, Griffin is having a terrific year and has shown improvement in various parts of his game, so it’s highly unlikely that a Melo for Blake trade ever becomes more than internal discussions.
