NBA Trade Rumors
Ever since Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were traded, Danny Ainge has claimed that the Boston Celtics intend to rebuild around All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo. Despite what the Celtics’ GM says, many have speculated whether the team could move Rondo and go for a full rebuild. Some rumors suggest that the Sacramento Kings, who have already completed two major trades in this young season, could be making a move for Rondo.
NBCSN basketball analyst Donny Marshall, however, says the Celtics have a major deal in the works that will eventually send Rondo to the Kings. In a discussion with Dave Briggs (@davebriggstv) on SportsDash, Marshall cited “the people [he talks] to” and said that the four-time All-Star point guard – along with multiple Celtics teammates – will be headed out west in a blockbuster.
Obviously Rondo would not be traded until he comes back from his ACL injury — which should be in January — and proves that he hasn’t lost a step. At this point the rumor is hard to believe. Even without Rondo in the lineup, Boston has started the season pretty well and the young core looks promising. Adding Rondo to that would only make things better.
On the other hand, the 2014 draft class is extremely deep, and moving Rondo for even more picks and young assets could be in the franchise’s best interests. Ainge squeezed a lot out of the Pierce and Garnett trades, so let’s not rule this out just yet.
Update: Since the initial rumor went viral, Sam Amick tweeted that neither team has discussed a deal for Rondo, or any other player for that matter.discussion powered by Sidelines
