According to a tweet from Fox Sports reporter Sam Amico, Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Sergey Karasev will take the floor tonight for the Canton Charge. Carrick Felix and Henry Sims were also reassigned after being recalled. There is no word on whether or not Karasev, Felix or Sims will be recalled before the Cavaliers travel to Florida to take on the Orlando Magic this Friday.

All in all, this is probably a good short-term move for the Cavaliers’ rookie. After a horrid performance in his first ever NBA start in Boston, Karasev has played limited minutes. In the last five games, the Russian rookie has played a total of five minutes, scoring zero points and taking zero shots. For the season, in nine games, he is averaging 2.4 points and 32.0 percent free throw shooting and 28.6 percent on his three-point shooting.
Still, I’d like to see him get work with Mike Brown and regular Cavaliers roster. Game experience in Canton will be beneficial, but I think he can make the most improvement by getting hands on coaching from Brown. And in Cleveland, he will also get daily work against players like C.J. Miles, Alonzo Gee and Dion Waiters. And ultimately, he’ll improve more that way.
As for Felix and Sims, I like the idea of keeping them in Canton for a while. Unlike Karasev, they aren’t necessarily looked at as a future piece on a contender. Like Kevin Jones (who is currently playing for the Charge) I think they are best served playing in Canton and getting game work in. You can bring them up if injuries arise, but their time will be best served playing actual basketball on a daily basis an hour trip down I-77 South from Cleveland.
But what do you have to say? Sound off in the comments below and let us know what you think of Karasev playing for the Charge.
