Monday evening rumors surfaced that the Minnesota Timberwolves were closing in on a deal for Derrick Williams with the Sacramento Kings. The deal has now officially gone through and Williams will be joining the Kings.
The trade is done. Derrick Williams is a King.

The hold-up for the deal to this point was Minnesota’s concern for Luc Richard Mbah a Moute’s health, as he missed the early parts of the season with knee tendinitis.
It’s not really surprising that the Wolves gave up on Williams, as there have been rumors of a trade for a long time now. While Derrick is only 22 years old, he was simply not a good fit with Minnesota and ended up buried deep in the team’s rotation this season. The Kings, on the other hand, have a young core of players and adding Williams by giving up Mbah a Moute seems like a low-risk high-reward type of deal. There are still major questions regarding Williams’ skill set and which position he can conceivably play, but he will very likely get a legitimate shot to prove himself with his new team.
