Saturday evening the Chicago Bulls made an announcement that confirmed fans’ fears. Derrick Rose damaged his knee against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday and an MRI confirmed that the point guard suffered a torn medial meniscus.
Initial reports suggested that Rose might have torn his ACL in his non-surgically repaired knee and many probably breathed a sigh of relief – at least it’s not the ACL, right? But after that initial reaction, reality hits. Rose is down and he will need surgery. It’s uncertain how long he will be out. Depending on just how bad the tear is and what procedure the doctors will choose to use, Rose could either return in a couple of months or miss the rest of the year.
Clearly this is a devastating blow not only to the Bulls franchise and its fans, but the NBA in general. Many players sent their prayers Rose’s way Friday evening, and many NBA personalities, including Damian Lillard, Kevin Love and Dwyane Wade have expressed their condolensces on Twitter. You can find the reactions of some NBA personalities below.
Hard to know at this point exactly what the D-Rose diagnosis means in terms of time missed, but it's not good. A bummer for the league…

Saddened for D Rose. Basketball is much better with him around. Keep your head up my friend.

Rose moves in a violent way, which is why he's so fun to watch, and sadly, why we'll only watch it for so long.

ok, joy is wearing off. Now dread. Not so much that Rose will be out but that it's another season of recovery 'updates'.

Given Rose's cautious approach last time, and this tweet https://t.co/8sLTA94Ghx from a noted trainer, I'd guess Rose is done this season
