The Miami Heat signed former No. 1 overall pick Greg Oden this summer as a little pet project to examine whether or not the big man has anything left in the tank. Ever since Oden made a brief appearance in preseason, he has been working hard in the gym in order to get healthy enough for some NBA action. There is still no word on how far Oden is from making a true NBA comeback, but head coach Erik Spoelstra revealed that the 25-year-old is making progress.

Spoelstra on Oden: “He’s certainly getting stronger in his legs. He hasn’t lifted like this in his life.”

When Oden played a couple of minutes in preseason, some probably thought that he would be back very soon, but the Heat continue to take the cautious approach. It’s good to hear that Oden is getting stronger in his legs, as that could go a long way to help him avoid further damage to his knees.
