NBA Trade Rumors – Omer Asik has asked the Houston Rockets to trade him, as being back on the bench in the shadow of Dwight Howard is not something that the center is willing to do anymore. The Rockets are rumored to be exploring trade scenarios for the big man, and according to Peter Vecsey, the Los Angeles Lakers are interested.
Like many teams, Lakers would love to acquire Asik, but have no quality assets to swap…

As Vecsey points out, a straight up deal between the two teams seems highly improbable. The Rockets would likely look for a big man that can shoot in return for Asik, which is something the Lakers just don’t have. And that’s perhaps for the better.
The Lakers are hoping to land a major free agent next summer, targeting LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. If they somehow managed to swing a trade for Asik, it would greatly limit their ability to sign one guy to a max contract, let alone two. Asik will see a major salary raise in the final year of his contract and will make just under $15 million in 2014/15.
