NBA Trade Rumors – Several days ago rumors surfaced that Raptors’ GM Masai Ujiri will consider moving Rudy Gay this season. But he might get a little more frisky than that.
Even at this Week 1 juncture, there are strong indications in circulation that Toronto is exploring its trade options rather vigorously in hopes of constructing a roster that can finally halt a five-season playoff drought.
The Raptors, I’m told, came into camp with an open mind under new front-office boss Masai Ujiri, willing to even consider an extension for Rudy Gay if they liked what they saw.
The strong sense now, though, is that the Raps are prepared to trade virtually anyone on the current roster if a suitable offer presents itself.
“Anyone but [Jonas] Valanciunas,” says one plugged-in source.
Uh-oh. Looks like Ujiri is going to leave no stone unturned this season. It’s well-known from his Denver Nuggets days that Ujiri is not shy when it comes to picking up the phone and suggesting trade scenarios to his fellow GMs. He has already managed to get rid of Andrea Bargnani and might be looking to build this team his own way.
Outside of Gay, two other names would most certainly get attention on the market — Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. Another interesting name could be Amir Johnson. Johnson has a very reasonable $6.5 million salary and his value is at its peak right now. Ujiri could also throw in a name like Terrence Ross in the mix to make some deals more attractive. One way or another, keep an eye out for the Raptors this season.
