The fact that Kobe Bryant is at the top of the food chain in the NBA is no news. Bryant is on the last year of his contract, which will fill up his bank account with a hefty check worth in excess of $30 million. However, the payments will not be spread out, as Bryant negotiated for the majority of his salary to be paid out in one payment. As such, Bryant was able to cash in a check worth $24.4 million today, according to SportsCenter.
Because of how he negotiated his contract, Kobe Bryant gets most of his salary in one payment. Today, he'll make a cool $24.4 million.

This kind of information is not always released, but there are certainly players around the league other than Kobe who like to be paid up front. JR Smith, who signed a contract with the New York Knicks this summer, also had a huge chunk of his salary paid out before the season began.
Bryant is currently working is way back from an Achilles tear. He hoped to be ready for the start of the season but remains without a clear return date.
