1946 – At Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, the New York Knicks defeated the Toronto Huskies, 68-66, in the first recognized game in NBA history. The league was known as the Basketball Association of America (BAA) at the time and consisted of 11 teams. The BAA would later merge with the NBA in 1949.
